AllergyCertified, allergy-tested, hypoallergenic, gentle, clean, mild…
IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES...
Navigating the world of makeup can be tricky if you have allergies or simply want to avoid unnecessary chemicals. So, what does it really mean when a brand claims their makeup is AllergyCertified? And can you trust that allergy-tested makeup is actually safe for sensitive skin? We're here to help guide you through it!
By law, product claims must be truthful and backed by evidence. They should be honest, reasonable, and easy to understand. However, there are often no strict rules about what such claims must include. That’s why even products marketed as “sensitive”, “mild”, or “gentle” can still contain allergenic fragrance ingredients.
You might often see the claim “dermatologically tested” on cosmetics. This means the product has been tested on humans under the supervision of a dermatologist. But as a consumer, it’s hard to know exactly what that entails. There are no clear requirements for how the testing was done or what the results were. The same goes for labels like “allergy tested” or “clinically tested” – they sound reassuring, but don’t necessarily guarantee safety for allergy sufferers.
CERTIFIED MAKEUP
A good rule of thumb is to look for official certifications on the packaging. If you want to avoid fragrance and unnecessary chemicals, look out for allergy certification labels like AllergyCertified or the Asthma & Allergy Nordic label (formerly known as the Blue Label in Denmark).En god tommelfingerregel er altid at kigge efter certificeringer på produktets emballage. Søg efter allergimærkerne Den Blå Krans eller AllergyCertified, hvis du vil undgå parfume og unødig kemi.

WHAT’S IN YOUR MAKEUP?
It’s perfectly normal not to know exactly what makeup is made of. The most important thing is to find a brand you trust. That said, it’s always a good idea to know where your makeup is produced. In Denmark, we have some of the strictest regulations regarding product content – so when you buy makeup produced, you can generally feel safe and confident in the ingredients.
You can also request INCI lists from brands – these are detailed ingredient lists that give you full transparency. On our website, for example, you’ll find them listed under each product.
At GOSH, we’ve chosen to collaborate with AllergyCertified because it’s an internationally recognised certification, and GOSH is sold worldwide. That also means you’ll find a wide selection of AllergyCertified products in our range – just look for the logo when you shop!
